What's in a hug...why hug your child??

Do you ever feel sometimes a hug makes things better?? Thats the same with children too. By giving that squeeze can do various things for them, chemically and emotionally. Take a look at the many points below.

  • It affirms your love for them.

  • It gives them security.

  • Research shows that hugging triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin; the feel good hormone!!

  • In boosting the oxytocin the immune system is fed and growth hormones are woken up too!! Amazing how it all happens without our knowledge!!

  • It promotes a positive bond between you & your child.

  • It ‘usually’ calms them (even during a tantrum).

  • It’s allows time to de-stress for both.

  • It can alleviate pain as a result of the oxytocin release.

  • It helps improve negative behaviour, often it’s thought you shouldn’t hug your child during an episode of poor behaviour but actually it may be when your child needs a hug the most!! Try it, see if it helps your child.

  • And last but by very means not least, if by hugging your child it makes them happy then why not do it?? As a parent to two active boys I strive to make them happy, the reality is, it doesn’t always work-out amongst the stress of being late for school or burning parsnips.....but it certainly won’t stop me trying again and again!! 👍 🤗❤️
